Shot Progression_Shot02_Animatic

I love shot progressions! I’ve always loved watching an animated scene being taken from animatic all the way through to final. I want to provide you with the same pleasure so I will be showing you the progression of Shot 02 of our short film. The following video is the animatic for this shot, which provides the general posing and timing we are aiming for. Hope you like it!

For the longest time we a basic rectangle as a place holder for the door in our short film. But now I can happily say that we finally have a final design for this asset.

Old Storyboards

After cleaning out old folders on my desktop I stumbled upon this photo. It’s a picture of one of the very first full storyboards we made for our short film. It almost makes me laugh because at the time we thought that we were close to hammering down the story but boy were we wrong! Little did we know that our story was about to change another half dozen times. Regardless, it’s still a nice memory to look back on!

Shot 03 Blocking in 2D

Here is the approved blocking for my 3rd animated shot in the BFA program. My main focus was to work out the timing, the poses, and the transitions from one pose to another. This is essentially a copied pairs version of blocking since the holds are static. When I begin translating this into Maya (3D) I will definitely be adding the moving holds as well as trying to push poses and improve silhouettes as best as possible.

Cyclone Test Animation

In our short film, the character Boofy uses a cyclone maneuver to do his job–sorting the capsules into their correct pipes. Up until now we only had static drawings of this action and we weren’t exactly sure how to animate this. After studying some reference and exploring a few options, we settled on this as what the final animation will look like.
